The Cardinal Lory (Chalcopsitta cardinalis) is one of the most spectacular and colourful lorikeets in the world. Almost entirely brilliant scarlet-red with contrasting black wings, tail, and flight feathers, this medium-sized lory is a true show-stopper. Native to the lowland forests and coastal areas of New Guinea and surrounding islands, it is known for its bold, playful, and highly social personality. Like other lories, it is an active nectar feeder and makes a lively, entertaining companion for experienced keepers.

Plumage & Features
The Cardinal Lory is almost entirely brilliant scarlet-red with contrasting jet-black wings, tail, and flight feathers. It has bright orange-red underwing and tail coverts, a black beak, and dark brown to orange-red irises. In good lighting the red plumage can appear almost glowing.
Juveniles are duller with more brownish tones and less intense red. This species is very active, loves bathing, and has a loud, high-pitched call typical of lories.
