Plumage & Features

The Scaly-naped Amazon is predominantly bright green with a distinctive black scalloped (“scaly”) pattern on the nape and neck. It has a blue crown, red wing speculum, and a broad red band on the tail. The beak is horn-coloured with a dark tip.

Juveniles have less pronounced scaling on the nape. This species is known for being relatively calm and steady compared to more excitable Amazons, making it a good choice for keepers seeking a large but less demanding parrot.
