The Red-spectacled Amazon (Amazona pretrei) is a striking and increasingly rare Amazon parrot from southern Brazil. It features bright green plumage with a vivid red “spectacle” around the eyes and forehead, a blue crown, and red wing speculum. Known for its intelligent, social, and vocal nature, this species is a good talker and forms strong bonds with its owners. Due to habitat loss and the pet trade, it is listed as Endangered in the wild.

Plumage & Features
The Red-spectacled Amazon is predominantly bright green with vivid red “spectacles” around the eyes and forehead, a blue crown, and a red wing speculum. The tail has a broad red band with blue and green edges. The beak is horn-coloured with a dark tip.
Juveniles have less red around the eyes and duller overall coloration. This species is known for being vocal and a good talker when well socialised.
