Plumage & Features
The Black Lory is almost entirely jet-black with a beautiful glossy sheen that can appear blue-black in certain lighting. It has bright red-orange underwing coverts, tail coverts, and a red-orange patch on the thighs. The beak is black, the iris is dark brown to orange-red, and the feet are dark grey.
Juveniles are duller and often show brownish tones on the body. This species is highly active, loves bathing, and produces a characteristic loud, metallic call.
