Plumage & Features
The Mealy Amazon is predominantly bright green with a distinctive “mealy” or powdery blue-grey appearance on the head and nape. It has a red wing speculum and a broad red band on the tail. The beak is horn-coloured with a dark tip. The overall effect gives the bird a slightly dusty or “mealy” look, especially on the crown.
Juveniles are similar to adults but have less pronounced mealy coloration on the head. This species is known for being relatively calm and steady compared to more excitable Amazons, making it a good choice for keepers seeking a large but less demanding parrot.
